WOMAN UNWRITTEN

Writer's Statement

MERIDA, MEXICO

Lori Bellman

Embrace is a collective project created alongside three writers whose voices and perspectives I deeply admire. Together, we set out to challenge the idea that poetry belongs to an exclusive literary circle accessible only to a select few. Our work is part of a larger movement—one that reclaims poetry as a living, breathing force that offers voice, embodiment, and reclamation to women everywhere.

My writing is rooted in storytelling and the shared experiences of women. It is driven by a desire to connect—to inspire women to express their lives beyond societal constructs that often diminish authenticity and limit creative expression.

I write to honor the voices of women—especially those whose presence, beauty, and truth have been diminished or erased by systems of sexism, racism, ageism, limited access, rigid beauty standards, and patriarchal expectations. My work explores the depth of the human experience—love, betrayal, intimacy, resilience, and transformation—through vivid imagery, emotional honesty, and the voice of a woman who refuses silence.

"Writing is how we return to ourselves—how we name what was hidden, reclaim what was silenced, and remember who we are beneath the expectations placed upon us."

Through my poetry, I hope to offer a sense of sanctuary—validation, encouragement, and perhaps a spark of inspiration. While deeply personal, my work speaks to universal and cross-cultural themes. It is rooted in my own experiences, while remaining in constant conversation with other women—their stories, their love, their resilience, and their Becoming.

I do not want this work to simply exist on the page. I want it to create a ripple—an echo that moves across cultures and communities, transcending barriers of class, race, time, socioeconomic status, and sexuality. My hope is that it encourages women to center their voices and begin writing from their own lived experiences and authenticity— not the narratives that have been handed to them.

Words from Lori Bellman

“There is a version of you beneath the expectations—waiting to be chosen.”
